The 70mm “buttress” thread, found on Nalgene’s rectangular laboratory carboys, is designed to work with closures and fixtures compatible with Mason jar threads, such as certain blender assemblies like Osterizer™ models.

This thread size allows for convenient filling, sampling, and fluid transfer, making it practical for various laboratory and field applications. Note that the Nalgene 70mm thread is not compatible with similar 70mm threads from other manufacturers, such as Rieke and NOWPak, due to differences in thread design.
